Yeah, that’s right baby. I’m back.

A storm of brains

I have decided to go with the theme of “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch”.

Script :

“Plastic pollution is one of the largest threats on Earth today… but what can be done to treat it?

In 1997, Oceanographer and boat captain Charles Moore was sailing with his crew through the remote North Pacific Gyre — when they discovered massive amounts of plastic surrounding them.

Dubbed the largest of five gyres filled with plastics, the “great pacific garbage patch” covers an estimated surface area of 1.6 million square kilometers: roughly twice the size of Texas or over three times the size of France.

The patch contains a staggeringly large number of pieces of plastic that’s estimated to be anywhere between 1.1 to 3.6 trillion, which is about 200 pieces of plastic for every person on earth.

Some types of plastic are more buoyant than others, which means that the plastic doesn’t just exist on the surface, but underwater as well. Research suggest that up to 70% of the plastic debris in this patch will sink to the bottom of the ocean if not acted on quickly… but there is hope.

The non-profit organization “The Ocean Cleanup” is currently showing incredible drive and ingenuity towards cleaning our oceans up. It is estimated that by 2025, 50% of the plastic within the patch will be removed. To see how you can get involved, please go to “theoceancleanup.com
